“Change your attitude, Change your life” – Buddha
Everyone has a mental state of mind that makes them focus on their position in life. That is what attitude is about. It’s that vantage point of view which determines our perspective towards situations in life and empowers us to translate such perspective into reality. The entire skeleton of our thoughts go a long way in determining what position we see our lives.
Welcome to December, a month of re-evaluation and changes! As you begin the second day of the last month of the year, I dare you to re-visit your attitude towards your life!
Weekly, until the end of the month, I’d periodically post in parts –The 15 chronic Negative attitudes we might have had towards situations that has/had only ended up as stumbling blocks in our lives. These attitudes you may want to consider not taking with you to the year 2015!
Attitude-type-1: The “Poor” state of mind
First of all, to quit being poor, stop thinking poor! It’s that simple; if you want to become wealthy you need to stop thinking like a poor person and start thinking like a rich person. Stop obsessing about your little resources and just work hard! Rich Habits show a typical attitude of “poor” thinkers…
“87% of poor people think you must be intellectually gifted in order to become wealthy
90% of poor people think fate determines your wealth or poverty in life
13% of poor people think/thought they will/would be successful in life
11% of the poor think creativity is critical to financial success
80% of the poor think genetics are critical to success
18% of the poor think they are the cause of their financial condition
77% of the poor think lying is a prerequisite for accumulating wealth
2% of the poor meditate daily
90% of the poor think rich people are rich because their parents were rich and they inherited money
22% of poor people think optimism is important to success
5% of poor people think rich people are good, hardworking and honest
52% of poor people believe wealth is accidental; a function of random luck…”
It’s funny but maybe if you can power your thoughts towards thinking wealthy and seeing yourself as capable of achieving the heights you wish to attain, you are halfway on the journey towards progress. Why some people get rich and others stay poor is most often in the mindset. Believe you can and you will!
Attitude-type-2: The Cynical attitude
A cynical attitude is simply an irrational assumption of the mind on people, things, or situations that is not objectively true. A cynic expects his thoughts and that of others to revolve round his negative point of view. Such hard-wired thoughts will most often be filled with uncertainty or doubt even without a coherent reason to think so. We activate cynicism when we feel hurt by or furious at an unfortunate situation or a missed opportunity or our general doubt. Rather than manage those feelings straightforwardly, we permit them to rot and skew our standpoint. This is no right attitude towards life. Getting all cynical, and structuring mental standards for others to live up to in a certain way, will make you closed-minded. Instead, choose to deal with people and things logically. It will give you a more renewed and positive outlook on life.
“Scratch the surface of most cynics and you find a frustrated idealist — someone who made the mistake of converting his ideals into expectations.” ― Peter M. Senge
Attitude-type-3: The Comfort-Zone attitude
Because comfort zones are not that comfortable! Who doesn’t like the idea of feeling all relaxed and at ease, enjoying all the comfort of their beautiful life? But where or what really is a comfort zone? What price can be paid to get one? I bet if everyone could afford it, no one would have to work a day! Since life is work in progress, a comfort zone then is a mental idea created by one with fear of taking risks–because comfort zones have nothing to do with reality; all pure fiction. When we lock ourselves behind the bars of comfort zones, it’s hard to grow! The first step to changing this type of attitude towards life is discomforting your comfort zone and stepping out there. Nothing but the same old stuffs happen until you
open uncage yourself and get out of your comfort zone. Be more inclined to taking risks, changes and trying as many times as possible. It takes you to a whole new adventurous world of bigger possibilities!
